Wondering where we’ve been? Although things have been quiet on the blog front, we’ve been making a lot of noise elsewhere. In addition to working on our significant site updates (coming soon!), we’ve been honored to be working hard to support the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford in their expansion and renovation project, "Where Hope has a Home”.
More than a warm bed, Ronald McDonald House provides a safe haven for families in need of love and support.
Where Hope has a Home brings together more than 60 designers who are donating their time and considerable expertise to create inviting and functional spaces in the House’s new 52,000 square-foot building extension. Once complete, the expansion will increase the number of family rooms from the current 47 to 123, allowing RMH at Stanford to accommodate more families with children receiving medical treatment in our community. This will allow more families to stay together during their family member's most critical phases of treatment, the impact of which is explained by some of the families here.
We Need You!
For its part, bluGloss is designing a bedroom and a bathroom, styled by our very own Matt O'Dorisio. You can be part of this exciting project by helping offset the cost of materials needed to bring this unique project to life. Make a tax deductible donation here, and know that your support will give the families staying at RMH at Stanford a comforting and safe place to rest, heal, and connect.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

I was recently asked where I seek design inspiration; where I go to stay current on the latest trends. The short answer is: everywhere! I’m fortunate to be totally immersed in the design world and so am constantly surrounded by, and soaking up, all things design.
A more practical answer is that there are a handful of design books I love and that I find myself flipping through time and time again for inspiration. Here are a few of my favorites:
Suzanne, author of At Home, A Style for Today with Things from the Past, is a good friend and mentor. Her book is for those of you who love The Establishment -- a super traditional style. It's an excellent source for guidance around adding antiques into your design mix and for an overview on finish detail for custom upholstered pieces. It’s a lovely book and even if you didn’t spend the weekend antiquing in the Hamptons, you’ll enjoy it.
I don't have words for the absolute beauty and comprehension of scale and color pallet that this man possesses. This is an epic book; you’ll spend hours pouring over it. I am totally inspired by Axel Vervoordt’s work.
At first glance, you might not notice this book -- but that would be such a shame. It's packed with amazing tips and I recommend it to anyone starting out in design. A great source for interesting furniture placement ideas and color schemes, this is a book I refer to all the time.
This is a wonderful book full of colorful, whimsical interiors that are somehow still sophisticated. This is my go-to source for kids’ room inspiration and it also has super fun upholstery shapes for custom upholstery pieces.
This book is insane! Steven Gambrel is one of the most amazing designers of our time; this is quickly obvious as you page through his book. It’s a wonderful source for lighting inspiration and furniture placement guidance. Full of moody color pallets and handsome interiors, this book is one of my all-time favorites.
These books are beautiful and are themselves, great décor. Place a few on a coffee table or stack them in a bookshelf – they are lovely and inspiring, inside and out. And, this reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
The book you don't read won't help -- Jim Rohn
