Pantone's Fall 2014 Colors
Pantone, we thank you. Once again, you’ve graced us with a fabulous fall color report, this time inspired by the colors on the runway at New York fashion week. We’re all familiar with traditional autumnal colors, but Pantone's fall palette is unexpected and stunning. The collection is feminine, with shades of purple (like Mauve Mist and Radiant Orchid), and also energetic, with unconventional blues and interesting reds (think: Bright Cobalt and Sangria).
Fashion week may have shown you how to integrate the season’s gorgeous hues into your wardrobe, but bluGloss is here to help you incorporate the palette into your home. Following are some of our favorite curated pieces in the colors of the season. Mix them into your décor for an instantly updated look.
Oh, Radiant Orchid, how is it that you are as fitting for fall as you are for spring and summer? We’re not surprised that Radiant Orchid is Pantone’s color of the year; it’s a new and improved version of a classic and it packs a punch. The Addison Chair combines the best of both worlds by incorporating this luxurious color with one of Jonathan Adler’s striking, super glam designs. (To read more about Radiant Orchid, click here.)
Rich and dramatic, Royal Blue is a statement hue. The Hosu Two-Seat Sofa from YLiving gives an update to this timeless color with an ultra modern design that can seat two -- comfortably -- or one if you need a little you time.
This season’s neutral is Aluminum. We think it's a refreshingly stylish take on ho-hum grey. This transitional piece, the Hurly-Drum Stool, from Canvas Interiors can be used as either a stool or a side table and adds great sheen to a space. It is super rad.
In both fashion and décor, Aurora Red is as bold as it gets -- it's the Louboutin of reds. Whether you use a little or a lot you’ll be sure to turn heads. The Clover Coffee Table balances this striking shade, and adds warmth, with pecan wood legs. This is a wonderfully youthful take on Modern Retro.
A warm, buttery yellow for fall -- delicious. The Yellow Ceramic and Acrylic Urn Table Lamp from The Well Appointed House is a fantastic example of this trendy hue. And the lamp is dreamy -- traditional with a twist. Yes, please.
You had us at the name. The exotic pink inspired red is a favorite color of the Pantone collection, and is gorgeously displayed in the Platner Lounge Chair from Design Within Reach. This color won't be ignored!
An exquisite alternative to the well-known cobalt blue, Bright Cobalt is fun and spirited – adding pizazz to the season's color palette. If you’re wondering how to make Bright Cobalt less 80s, think texture! The Echo Rug from Blu Dot compliments this gorgeous color with a unique pattern of loops and a cozy wool knit. Your tootsies will thank you.
Cypress is quintessentially fall, but that doesn’t mean the color doesn’t look fab year round. The dark mossy green serves as a great neutral or work as a room's statement color. An excellent example of this is the elegant Urbanity Roxbury Tufted Sofa. This sofa would dominate the room with its understated elegance and rich color.
Love it All! - Radiant Orchid/Mauve Mist/Sangria
Pink, pink and more pink. It doesn't get more girly than this mix of Radiant Orchid, Mauve Mist and Sangria in the embroidered Trina Turk Pillow from The Well Appointed House – it’s a great way to incorporate several of the "it" colors in your space. You are so on trend.
It's no secret that Radiant Orchid can be a bit polarizing, but what do you think about Pantone's other fall 2014 colors? Think Pantone is stuck in the 80s with this new line? Or, are you content to crank up the Depeche Mode, plump up your shoulder pads and embrace these colors as totally now?
